This text is a conversation between James Hanover Thompson and his brother Dwight Thompson, recorded for StoryCorps‚ a nonprofit oral history organization seeking to collect and preserve the diverse stories of people throughout the United States. Nine-year-old James Hanover Thompson and his friend‚ David Simpson‚ were arrested in 1958 in Monroe‚ N.C. after allegedly kissing a white girl.
